The lord Mayor of Kanifing Municipality, Talib Bensouda has informed journalist in a press briefing that he has no particular interest to meddle in any selection process for Alkaloship.
This came in a wave of intense conflict of leadership choice for the community of Latrik,unda Yiringanya , who had their community entangled into indifference as to who becomes the next community head between aspirants Suwaibou Faal and Pa Omar Faal, following the untimely demised of Alkalo Amadou Faal on 25th March 2020.
As this tussle intensify with no clear timeline as to when the dust of confusion will subside in Latrikunda which has triggered discussion on social media, with blame directed to the sitting mayor for taking side in the process due to political affiliation with one of the aspirants.
Mayor Besouda has expelled claims of taking side as emphasised on social media,
“as a mayor, I don’t know Pa Omar Faal neither Omar Faal , and I am indifference as to who become the Alkali of Latrikunda , because I am not from there , I am indifference as to who become the Alkali of any community because I am not interested “ He stated .
Mayor Besouda went futher to explain that since he came into office, six Alkalos have passed away within the two and half years of his leadership, in the replacement for the deceased community heads, he expounded that he always completely distant himself from the selection processes.
He warned the permanent secretary of his line ministry, Ministry of Local Governments and Land, to carry out his functions in trying to amicably settle this dispute by being apolitical in reaching verdict.
He stated that, permanent secretary should refrain themselves from being partisan, as they are civil servants who are expected to serve many governments.
He concluded by stressing in his own words “I am interested in neither Suwaibou Faal nor Pa Omar Faal candidacy. All I am interested in, is who is chosen as the Alkalo of Latrikinda , so that I can work with the person in the best interest of the community “
