The President of The Gambian Football Federation (GFF), Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo, has been cleared by the FIFA Review Committee to vie for a position in the world football governing body’s main decision making body, the FIFA Council.

Mr. Bajo, who is competing with six other candidates for two of Anglophone’s FIFA Council membership spots, underwent an eligibility check and in a letter addressed to him on Tuesday 26th January, 2021, the FIFA Review Committee declared him eligible for the position having passed the check.

The election for the Council position will be held on March 12 in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, at the CAF Elective Congress where the President and members of the Executive Committee of the continental football governing body will be elected for another four-year term. Mr. Bajo is one of the favorites for the position.

The FIFA Council consists of 37 members: one President, elected by the FIFA Congress; eight vice presidents, and 28 other members elected by the member associations – each for a term of four years.

The Council is the main decision-making body of the organization in the intervals of FIFA Congress. Its members are elected by the FIFA Congress. It is a non-executive, supervisory and strategic body that sets the vision for FIFA and global football.
