the commission on political Debate with National Democratic institute (NDI) has on Thursday held political debate at Mayork Senior Secondary School which provides platform for the parliamentary candidates to interact directly with electorates also to sound their policies to canvass for votes ahead of the April 9th parliamentary polls.
The candidates for the debate were three independents namely Ousman Marcus nyassi,Ousman Jallow,Pa Dembo sanneh and kaddy Camara for APRC.
Of which kaddy camara of APRC and Pa Dembo sanneh an independent candidate failed to attend .
In the height of the Debate , the candidates stressed on their oversight funtions as NAM hopefuls , the presence of ECOMIG soldiers in Foni,Fundamental rights and freedoms and soco-Economic activities .
Ousman Jallow the independent candidate and Bondali youth leader on the oversight functions said, he will Engage the Government to cater for the public facilities in his constituency and he added that , his priority is Agriculture to ensure his people engage in farming for self sustenance.
He emphasized that , he will empower women by helping them to be recognized through formal registrations in order to attract funds through fundings from projects and other interventions . He promised to raise awareness of his constituents members on the fundamental human rights and freedom .
Jallow , expounding on his policy frowns at the unending presence of the ECOMIG forces in Foni which he said pose security threat to Foni inhabitants considering the proximity of Cassamance to Foni, he was quick to add that , Senegalese soldiers should be replaced with Gambian counterparts.
Ousman Marcus nyassi,Independent candidates during the debate said,the minister of Agriculture should endeavor to engage Gambians on farming to minimize the problem on basic food commodities and the importation as well.
Adding on he said,the abuse of freedom and fundamental human rights have no control and people should be engaged by regulatory bodies to ensure that fundamental freedoms are preached to the citizens .
He further stated that , the provision of Medical drugs to pharmacy in various communities should be a key priority to the ministry of Health . He promised to lobby for a sophisticated medical intervention to his constituency through ministry of health.
Hannah forster ,the Board Chairperson of the commission on political Debate thanked partners and others by making the event success and memorable .
