The Gambia Transport Union(GPU) threatened an industrial action on Monday the 13th of this month. This  proposed strike, according to the president of the union Matarr Ceesay, is a follow up of a series of engagements with the government on matters central to the development of the transport sector which seems to be given no attention.

He added that they have toured the entire country as a union, a report of which was submitted to the government for redress which seems to have been ignored . He added that the commercial drivers under the union will observe this directives till at a time the Government  will consider their request.

It could be recalled that, the Gambia Transport Union, had a consultation with the central government over lack garages for drivers but no positive response has been received, also the Gambian drivers complained to suffer a great deal in the hands of securities in the neighbouring countries whilst other nationals who drive into Gambia are allowed to enter without any charge being demanded.
