Mrs. Lucy Faye, the Chairperson of The Gambia Revenue Authority Board of Director, has revealed that the government of The Gambia has assigned the institution to rack up at least D12.8 billion in the present year.

Mrs. Faye lauded Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe during a recent visit to GRA offices in the Greater Banjul Area for what she described as an “excellent job’ stating that the authority achieved the set revenue goal despite the enervating impact  COVID-19 has on the economy. She added that in spite of the hurdles faced by the institution, they managed to surpass its revenue collection target for 2020 and that even the IMF was left astonished at how they were able to register such a groundbreaking success amid a global pandemic.

She urged the staff to tighten their waist and be near-at-hand for the potential challenges they might encounter as they journeyed into the present year. She advised them to continue to embrace the slogan of “GRA Is Your GRA” and “GRA Is Our GRA” endorsed during the formulation of the institution’s 2020-2024 strategic plan.

“Your work is very important in the sense that the whole economy depends on your actions and activities, therefore protecting the image of GRA should be your first priority among your agendas.” she said as she encouraged them to continue protecting the image of Gambia Revenue Authority.

Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe in his response, said their achievement was as a result of the collective efforts, commitment, cooperation and teamwork among the staff. He promised to maintain the goodwill of the institution among the staff to ensure the winning spirit stays alive.

The GRA was tasked to collect D10,088,777,844 for the government in 2020 but eventually collected D11,807,925,060.95. This meant the authority collected 17% above the target in the sum of D1,219,147,216.8
