Through a prison trust fund project funded by the British High Commission in The Gambia, the CEO of Insight Training Center, Teranga Fm, headed by Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, on Monday 28th December 2020, donated D3000 to 27 prisoners in mile 2 central prison.
The launching of the project was graced by the 27 inmates, prison officers, relatives and the Director General of Ansumana Manneh.
Insight Training Center in collaboration with Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) about two months ago, trained some prisoners on face mask production. The money handed to them was a promise made to them during the training.
Speaking at the event, Dr Ceesay highlighted that the British High Commission in The Gambia felt the need to support and empower prisoners is a necessity in their quest to become better people in the society. “The main objective of the project is to sponsor some of the inmates that do not have relatives with strong financial backgrounds to foot their medical bills and other necessities,” he said.
DG Manneh praised Dr. Ceesay for spearheading such a meritorious initiative. He equally commended Insight Training Center for helping prisoners over the past years.
Mr. Manneh went further to advise prisoners to ameliorate themselves and avoid anything that could lead them back to prison. One of the beneficiaries of the cash donation Omar Saidy, thanked Dr. Ceesay and everyone behind the initiative noting that the money will go a long way in supporting them.
Concluding, Saidy urged the authorities on behalf of his fellow inmates, to be given a second chance. “But as I conclude, I would like to plead on behalf of all my fellow prisoners for us to be given a second chance. I have no doubt that if some of us are given a second chance, we will reform for the better,”
