A group of Bakau descendants living in the diaspora through Bakau “Kankiling” association donated over D1.5 million worth of items to the Bakau health centre.
The donation is aimed at complementing the government’s effort in providing excellent and affordable health care to the Gambian people and more especially residents of Bakau.
The donated materials: 3 beds, office desks, 2 filing cabinets, 3 air conditions, 2 digital smart TVs, 2 refrigerators and 30 chairs.
Fatou Sanyang, officer in Charge of the Bakau health centre expressed appreciation and thanked the association for coming up with such laudable support to the health centre.
She emphasised that the donated items “will go a long way in helping them function exceptionally in maintaining the wellbeing of the people of Bakau.”
The association secretary general Muhammed Lamin Janneh underscored the significance of the association’s stands in fulfilling its responsibilities in the community’s development agendas.
Janneh, also gave an insightful historic background of how and why the Association was formed, saying over the years they have embarked on a “Five year Bakau School Project” and also launched the Bakau health project in 2019 intermittently.
The Regional health director, Alagie Sankareh, applauds the diaspora for what he called “true patriotism”.
“I called on the citizens of Bakau to make the best use of the health centre. This facility belongs to them and only they can make it a better place by showing their support.” he said.
The Bakau councillor, Lamin Dibba said: “The donation is among many of its kind done by the Bakau diaspora association. I urged the elders of the town to continue supporting and praying for the youths in all forms.”
The Bakau diaspora association is a non-profit organisation formed by the people of Bakau to help in the development of the community and create an effective and fruitful environment for the residents.
