Great Ambitious Muslimah For Education And Modestly dubbed ’GamFem’, a new Women-Led Islamic organisation that seeks to empower women and girls through Islamic teachings, on Friday, 25th December 2020, officially launched the organisation to the general public at Paradise Suite Hotel, Senegambia.
The day-long event was marked with a series of activities and lectures from some of the reputable Islamic scholars in the country. The president of the organisation Mariama Jallow, expressed profound gratitude to the public for honouring their invitation and encouraged them, especially women, to join the organisation and benefit from their umpteen upcoming activities.
She revealed that there are many groundbreaking activities on the pipeline that the organisation will soon embark on. She added that they will not only stop within the kombos but will travel as far as Basse and other remote areas to teach muslim women about their religion, offer marriage and pre-marital counselling, provide free veils to those who want to wear the hijab but could not due to financial constraints and other social activities.
Fatimah Nyan, one of the female scholars who gave lectures at the launching, reminded the gathering about the rights and privileges Allah has endowed Muslim women with. She encouraged them to strive to the right path and not succumb to society’s standard of modern day ‘women’s rights.’
Sheikh Hama Jaiteh, a renowned Islamic scholar, also seized the opportunity to remind the gathering especially women, the importance of seeking knowledge and how women have always been in the forefront during and after the time of the holy prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. He said the first person to accept Islam was a woman and the first person to die for Islam was also a woman; thus the importance of women in Islam cannot be overemphasised.
Fatimah Mahanerah, who spoke in the mandinka dialect, expounded on the points of the previous speakers adding that women are the bedrock of Islam. She commended the organisers for the great initiative and urged them not to relent in their quest to spread the word of Allah throughout the length and breadth of the country.
The event ended with distribution of gifts to Madrassas and individuals respectively. The gifts include Praying mats, Qurans, sanitary pads, veils for both young and old women among others.
