The principal of the Gambia College Abubacarr Jallow during a question and answer session with the National Assembly select committee on Education said that there are no qualified and certified librarians in the country. Mr Jallow made this disclosure when he was asked why they did not have a librarian in the college.

The Gambia College appeared before the committee to present their activity reports and financial statements.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology further commenting on the issue said there are few librarians in the country and the government has only one qualified librarian. He added that even that one is on contract not a staff of the government.
