The group civil society organisations has filed a joint lawsuit against the national assembly members who allocated 54 million dalasi for their personal development against the desire of  citizenry of the Gambia.

The supreme court has ruled in favor of the civil society actors as the court raised a red flag to stop the parliamentarians from enjoying a benefit for which could have been spared for national interest which is the 54 million Loan scheme designed by them and for them.

Speaking to this medium, Fanta Dahaba from Gambia stated that it is their responsibility and duty as citizens of this country to protect the supreme book of the country which is the constitution . She added that they, as the civic society took upon themselves to protect the Constitution which attracted their first intervention.

Fanta added that, this court proceedings has added trust of the judiciary as confidence in our judiciary system will be restored as in rare cases judiciary disagree with the decision of the incumbent or other arms of the government as it’s just been manifested in the recently concluded case involving the civil society and the members of the national assembly.

The eloquent female CSO Fanta, further elaborated that, mostly the work of the CSOs are not recognized  but the case of  the Gambia would obviously change the narratives as the citizens would be aware that the CSOs will not allow blatant disregard of the laws of the land and she said warned that they are watching all sectors of the public service with their invisible lens to ensure effective delivery of services and in compliances with agreed principles.

She stated that this case of the Gambia can be used as a best practice for other countries within the subregion to emulate. She stated that budgets are designed to develop the country and mainly from the taxpayers fund which the civic society cannot watch being waisted or diverted to individuals needs against the interest of the state. She added that the members of the parliament are not expected to sit in our names in the parliament to enrich themselves with the state funds.
