A strong windstorm on Wednesday night caused serious damages to many houses in the Kombo east  district west coast region village as roofs were taken off by wind which resulted in many being homeless. The massive destruction occurred on Wednesday 7 July 2021 and almost every part of the country was affected. As the country suffered these massive distractions, almost all the villages in the Kombo east region were also affected. Buildings were badly damaged.

 The windstorm has not only caused damage to houses and properties but in other areas lives were lost. Speaking to this medium, Mariama Jammeh, a mother of 5 explained the challenges she and her family underwent during the start of the windstorm which took off their building roofs. Mariama said the windstorm has caused them a sleepless night. She said the wind pulled off their rooftops and blew it away leaving them at the mercy of the element.

 Morro Gassama, a victim of Wednesday’s windstorm also explained how the unforeseen windstorm destroyed his properties and other belongings that were wet and scattered away.  “The wind destroyed the roof of my house and my situation is devastated because I’m poor,” Morro Gassama said.

 Saikou Bojang, another victim, explained the challenges they are facing at the village and called on all able and capable individuals to come to their aid. “When the windstorm and heavy downpour started I couldn’t do anything. My rooftops were removed and I cannot maintain it back,” Saikou Bojang said.

 The victims together with their families are now pleading for assistance from the government or any philanthropists to come to their aid. Many of the villages remained without running water or electricity. After the utility infrastructure was damaged by heavy windstorm, rain and flooding.

 At least 10 people were killed during the storm, and more than 1,500 people displaced, according to figures reported on social media.
