The incumbent chairman of Brikama Area Council (BAC) Sheriffo Sonko, delivering his statement of withdrawal at the press conference held at the council’s ground on Tuesday March 7, 2023, said he is withdrawing his intention to vie for the position of chairman for the interest of the party (NPP)

The chairman said ‘’ I will remain agile, unbreakable and solid in supporting the agenda of president Adama Barrow, which is uncompromising at any level or any cause’’.

Sheriffo expressed gratitude to the people of West Coast Region for trust and confidence bestowed on him in this high office.

He thanked President Barrow for the patience, support and guidance to him in his office tenure. He equally send appreciation to his family, colleagues and everyone who stood by him especially in times he needed patience and understanding

‘’I have to say at this point that,  it’s been a difficult time of reflection for me, but I had to decide for personal reasons, my best option is to opt out of the 2023 race’’, Sonko affirmed.

Sheriffo Sonko won the Brikama Area Council position in 2018 under the  ticket of the United Democratic Party (UDP) He shifted his allegiance to the ruling National People’s Party after fallen out with his previous political party.

The race for chairmanship elections in the Gambia is due in April this year.
