THE UNIVERSITY OF THE GAMBIA (UTG): Finishes First Phase Of Training On Hand Sanitizer Production.

The University of The Gambia’s School of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (SMARS) on Saturday 25 April 2020, successfully completed the first phase of a three-day training on hand sanitizer production, and use of personal protective equipments (PPEs).

The training aimed at producing hand sanitizer, and use of personal protective equipments. funded by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).

Prof. Ousman Nyan, A trainee. Said, he is delighted over the success of the training.

“We are happy that we have been trained to empower people. From this training we hope that we will no longer need to depend on imports.”

He informed the gathering that the participants went through a rigorous three-day training, and that each of them was tasked to make a hand sanitizer using the chemicals at their disposal.

Mustapha Bittaye, the Director of health services, also emphasized on the importance of this training.

“We expect a lot from you and we want you to train your colleagues in the regions so that as many people can benefit from this initiative.”

He extended gratitude on behalf of the Minister of Health, while thanking the ISESCO, and the University of The Gambia for making this possible. He encouraged the participants to collaborate even after the training.

Ms. Marie Noel Mendy, a participant from the North Bank Region, delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of her colleagues. “If the knowledge gained here is not shared.”

“Then that will defeat the purpose of the training,” she concluded.
