The ministry of health, under the leadership of Hon. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh on Saturday 13 June 2020, in collaboration with the Medical Research Council The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the World Health Organization Country Office, launched the COVID-19 Diagnostics Facility at the National Public Health Laboratories in Kotu.

 

According to an update on their official Facebook page, the ministry of health since the pronouncement of Covid-19 in March, has been working with the MRCG to devise the National Laboratories for Covid-19 testing.

 

“As part of the official inauguration of the National Public Health Laboratories to conduct COVID-19 diagnostic testing, the MRCG presented a donation of materials worth over 1.5 million Dalasis to the Honorable Minister of Health to support the national COVID-19 response efforts. The donated items included 5 brand new YAMAHA motorcycles, 10 locally-produced hospital beds, 200 locally-made 3D-printed face shields and 500 locally-produced face masks.“

 

Dr. Samateh, the health minister, extended his thanks and appreciation to MRCG for their unwavering support in combating the novel CoronaVirus and assured them of his unceasing support, partnership in the protection of the overall health of the population.
