“Under section 169 subsection 1,2 and 3 of the criminal code laws of the Gambia have prohibited the usage and engagement in importation and sale of military uniforms and regalia without authority.”
In a press release on Tuesday by the Armed forces, they have observed with discontent the unauthorised importation and sales of military items such as uniforms, jackets, boots and caps by individuals and businessmen in the country. Civilians do sometimes abuse the military camouflage, combat boots and boots in public.
“This unfortunate development and if unchecked, could be used by organised criminal gangs and unscrupulous individuals not only to impersonate members of the Armed forces but also to perpetrate crimes within community.” Said The army, in a statement signed by Major Lamin Sanyang.
They additionally wish to restate their vow to maintaining the peace and security of the country, “therefore, we would not compromise on issues that have the potential to threaten the national security. The cooperation of the general public is highly solicited.” It concluded.
