A Senegalese business man residing in Banjul identified as Sibo, fell and drowned in a flooded drain in Banjul while riding a bicycle. This incident happened over the weekend following a heavy downpour in the Capital city, Banjul.

The deceased however, was repatriated to his native country (Senegal), where he is expected to be laid to rest.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference yesterday,  the Mayor of Banjul Rohey Malick Lowe, said, the incident was an unfortunate tragedy that could have been avoided but also, a reminder to the many problems the city is facing currently.

She added that, the incident further revealed the immediate need of intervention including the closing of all drainages by the constructors of the ongoing Banjul road project to avoid such incidents in the future.

Mayor Lowe concluded by, calling for surveys around Tabacco and Box Bar roads to gauge and determine the presence of Crocodiles which is frightening to the residents of those areas. She urged the swift procurement of sanitary items from the funds set aside for the Banjul rehabilitation project.
