Smart Business Group in it’s effort to help the country fight against the coronavirus pandemic, on Tuesday 21 July 2020, donates face masks and sanitary items worth one hundred and eighty thousand dalasis to the mile 2 central prison.
This gesture is meant to benefit both prisoners and prison officials in this trying moment.

The donated items include 5thermometer temperature checker, 15 buckets, 16 bottles of liquid soap, 100 bags of omo, 60 packs of soap and 1800 face mask. This is said to be in line with the government’s spokesperson’s declaration to make the usage of face mask compulsory on all Gambians effective 24 July 2020.

Omar Njie, from the smart business group, said, the prisoners are “very vulnerable” as they cannot provide face masks and other sanitary items for themselves, it is essential to contribute their quatre on these people and encourage other philanthropists to follow their footstep.

Director of prison’s administration Saikou Kawsu Gassama, said, the gesture is timely as they are in need to help the inmates from contracting the virus, he added that the donated items would be put into good effect.

The mile 2 central prison is lacking some of the basic necessities needed to keep the place as a central prison, says it’s inmates.

The inmates that appeared before the TRRC mentioned in their testimony that sometimes they receive an item from philanthropists but complained it’s mostly not given to them.
