Another windstorm disaster has destroyed more than a dozen of houses in Sare Ngai, a village in the Central River Region (CRR), which is located some two hundred and seventy-five (276) kilometers away from  the capital city Banjul. The incident occurred on Thursday night the 7 October 2021.

This is the second massive destruction caused by a windstorm in the country within a year following the 7 July 2021 windstorm which claimed the lives of 10 people and displaced thousand others.

Speaking to this medium, Jalimadi Baldeh, Alkalo of Sare Ngai Village explained how the windstorm destroyed the whole building roofs in the village.

The village Alkalo described the destruction as shocking to the entire village as building roofs were left at the mercy of the wind. “We have never witnessed such destruction in the village. However, we thank Allah because lives were not lost,” Jalimadi Baldeh said.

The worried village Alkalo said the village is desperately in need of support. According to him, when the incident occurred they contacted their Chief of lower fulladu (Modou Lamin Baldeh) but he (Chief) never showed up and he didn’t send any representatives to the village.“We are very disappointed with the current government,” he said.

The village Alkalo told this medium that Essa Faal visited the village after he was informed about the destruction. He said Essa Faal gave the village ten thousand (D10,000) dalasi. He expressed the village’s appreciation to Mr Faal for the visit he made to the village.

Mr Baldeh said the windstorm has destroyed all their houses and properties. The villagers are now pleading for support from philanthropists, individuals, NGOs, and any other person to come to their aid.

“As we speak, I have no roof in my compound and we are in the middle of the raining season. Our children have no were to sleep and we don’t have money to rebuild our houses. The whole village is badly affected,” Alkalo Jalimadi Baldeh explained.

Yahya Jallow the village imam also registered their disappointment to the government for not sending any representatives to visit the village. “We have done everything for this country but now the current government is neglecting us,” he said.

Imam Jallow expressed gratitude to their neighbors for coming to their aid at this trying time. He highlighted the challenges that the windstorm has put the village into. The victims of the windstorm pleaded for urgent support.
