The Bakau Market on Thursday 3 August 2020, for the second time in three months, catches fire leaving at least 7 stalls burnt down to ashes.

The course of the fire remains obscure but many vendors suspect it must have been caused by the electricity. Although no one died or injured, the victims of the fire outbreak expressed grief over the sudden loss of their goods that they worked so hard to establish.

One Salieu Bah said, he lost over 100,000 worth of items and other gadgets razed to the ground . “Things are difficult now. Plus, my wife delivered twins just last month,” Mr Bah said in almost a tearful eyes.

Modou Jallow, also a victim of the unfortunate combustion said over D310.000 worth of goods were destroyed in the fire. “I am a family man too, but I am still grateful to Allah,” he said looking at his razed stall.

Alhaji Sanyang, the  president of the Bakau market appealed for help for the traders/vendors whose livelihoods have been destroyed.
