The youth of Bakoteh in the diaspora on Saturday 11 December 2021, presented a donation of sporting Materials to Bakoteh Football Club at a presentation held at the football field. The event was witnessed by the youth development committee and sport lovers in the community who say the donation is timely.
The donated sporting materials includes footballs, jerseys, guards, football corns, net, goal post, among other valuable materials. The donation is geared towards helping the youth in their footballing career. The amount of money used to purchase the materials has not been disclosed to this medium. However, donors say sporting martials are very expensive.
Bakoteh FC is an approximately fifty man squad (50) who are preparing for qualification to the Gambia’s third division league. Speaking on behalf of the donors, Abdou Chune alias Nyang said the materials donated to the youth is a support from Bakoteh youth abroad.
“During our time we used to go outside and borrow football Jerseys from other teams. This is why our people in the diaspora came up with the idea to help us with quality support equipment,” he said. The materials will go a long way in helping the youth in sport and they can last longer. He challenged the beneficiaries to take proper care of the equipment. We want the best for our people.
“As you can see all these materials are from Denmark and they are of good quality.” Chune express hope that with the support from their people in the diaspora Bakoteh FC will qualify to the third division for the first time. “We have been training for the past months and now we are very prepared,” he said. Mr. Chune thanked the donors for the timely gesture and assured them that the materials will be properly managed. He says the materials have come at a time when their demands are high.
Jamil Jawo, Bakoteh FC Captain says the sporting materials donated to them will go a long way in helping them to achieve their dreams in sport. He expressed the team’s appreciation to the donors. “We are very happy to receive these high quality football materials from our brothers in the diaspora,” he said. He called on his teammates to continue the hard work as their brothers are ready to support them.
Jawo adds that they are hopeful of qualifying to the third division league. “We have been training for months and now we are on the right direction to challenge our opponents to qualify,” he said. He added that the materials have come at a better time.
