The newly appointed British high commissioner to The Gambia hands over his diplomatic credentials to the president Adama Barrow, today, at the state house of The Gambia.

In handing over his credentials, the foremost British representative to The Gambia David Belgrove said, The Gambia and UK had a long history and that they are looking forward for more collaborations especially in the security reform sector and economic recovery after the devastating pandemic.

“Congratulations to the president on the democratic reforms The Gambia has made today and how we wish to build work with The Gambia as friends to build on those reforms. In addition we want to continue and build on the work we doing in a number of areas including democracy, human rights, security sector reform health, education all of those things we want to continue to build on. But also I said to the president I want to help with the economic recovery particularly after the Covid situation and attract more investment from the UK into The Gambia,” David said.

Belgrove echoed that, the UK-Gambia bilateral relations is on a peg of working on their  defense relationships by facilitating capacity building training within the Gambian armed forces.

Mr Belgrove has been appointed as the British high commissioner in The Gambia since August 2020, in succession to Ms Sharon Wardle, who served three years in office in the country.
