Citizen Alliance party Friday relates Gambia’s high crime rate as a result of weak security that a country without strong security will not prevail.
Speaking at a press conference held by the party discussing the current affairs of the state, Dominic Mendy National president of Citizens Alliance Said that “Gambia is becoming a no go area for its citizens even at day time and one must have to be vigilant..”
“We Gambians have never known this. We have taken our peace and security for granted. Its only in the Gambia that at night you’ll find a little female tourist working around the Herman miller road or popularly known as the Senegambia road without worry of any threat in their lives,” he added.
Dominic says that the solution to wipe out these acts in The Gambia is for everyone to together as one and work in unison.
He pointed out that the government should take policy making very seriously, as the solution to this problem is not lenient. “will require the participation of the entire country because those responsible for these atrocities are our youth”.
A journalist asked if the party is interested to go into coalition , responding to the question, Mendy said in politics, you can never say never.
Meanwhile, Neneh Freda Gomez, the spokeswoman of the Citizens’ Alliance added that what is happening in the country is alarming and that a country without adequate security is meaningless as people will live in constant fear of either losing their lives or properties.
“So as stakeholders, as Citizens’ Alliance, we are the futuristic party, we are concerned and we want to talk about it, we are not only going to criticize but we want to highlight the issues and also suggest solutions, a way forward, how we should address these issues, to ensure security, so that everyone can feel safe anywhere and at anytime.” She added.
Shedding light on the status quo, she said “we’ve seen a lot of theft cases, a lot of burglary, killings, and we’ve seen a lot of disappearances recently. What is the cause of all that, something is responsible, and we need to know those things responsible, and also provide a way forward that we will all be able to get rid of all these issues.”
