Bansang Magistrate Court in the Upper River Region, has convicted and sentenced 11 people to a fined of D6000 for violating the curfew order, failure to which they will serve one year nine months in prison. The curfew was introduced early July by the government in its effort to contain the spread of Covid-19 in.

The convicts are as follows

2- Modou Lamin Ceesay
3- Yaya Sowe
4- Sarjo Jallow
5- Alieu Keita
6- Modou Lamin Manneh
7-Oumie Manneh
8- Sirra Camara
9- Wuday Sowe
10-Alpha Omar Jallow
11- Abdul-Aziz Sillah

According to the Police Prosecutor Inspector Kemo Y. Manneh, the incident happened when they were on their normal patrol to ensure people adhere to the COVID-19 safety measures. Inspector Manneh said he found the above people in the street between the hours of 22:00 hours to 5am, without wearing face mask.

They all pleaded guilty on two accounts and they were unrepresented. Magistrate Jabang seized the opportunity to remind the convicts and the public that everybody should respect the law because it is here to guide and protect the lives and properties of the citizens.

On a slightly different evelopment, a 24 year-old Sainey Kuyateh, a resident of Katamina Village in Central River Region was arraigned before the Jareng Magistrates’ Court for attacking and hitting a police officer on his mouth while executing his duty. Mr. Kuyateh was found guilty and now awaits his fate.

This incident happened on 6 August 2020 at Chaya check point when the accused unlawfully assaulted one CPL 4631 Ebrima Bah, a police officer while on duty. Magistrate Saidykhan remanded the accused and adjourned the case to 11 September 2020.
