First Lady Sarjo Mballow Barrow on Wednesday took delivery of testing equipment and face masks worth D150,000 from a Gambian philanthropist based in Denmark.
The donation came from SMJ Services, whose Managing Director, Hagie Karaga is engaged in import business from Denmark.
First Lady Sarjo Mballow received the donated equipment at a short ceremony held at the State House on Wednesday.
Speaking on her behalf, political adviser, Mr. Saihou Mballow praised the efforts of the donors in complementing the government tackle the Covid-19 pandemic in The Gambia. This is the second of such donation through the Office of the First Lady in recent months, he disclosed.
“Your donation is a demonstration of patriotism as a Gambian. Government cannot do it all without the support of citizens. Your efforts are indeed appreciated,” Mr Mballow said.
Speaking on behalf of the donors, Mr. Ousainou Bai Sankareh described the donation as a truce reflection of a proud URR citizen’s love for his country.
He said, the times are challenging and more of such gestures are needed if Gambia is to move forward.
The equipment include laboratory testing equipment and face masks that would be forwarded to the Ministry of Health for use by frontline workers against Covid-19 pandemic.
The items were presented by the family of Mr Karaga. Wife Sally Sissoho praised First Lady Mballow for her leadership in supporting President Barrow achieving his objectives for The Gambia.
