Sunday the 7th of March 2021, The members of the opposition Gambia Action Party converged in their hundreds to observe their congress held at Corinthia hotel formerly Sheraton hotel in Brufut.  Congress consists of an integral part in justifying the reality of a political party’s existence, also a vital requirement by IEC, failure to hold which could lead a party being unrecognised by the independent electoral body of The Gambia.

Addressing enthusiastic party militants and sympathisers, Musa Yali Bachilly, The secretary General and party leader for GAP, outlined some development undertaken which their lead government vow to implement when Gambian vote them to power.

According to Bachilly, Gambia under the past and present government, the country has been faced and challenged with massive corruption; this  involves diversion of state funds to fulfil desires of individuals that hold enviable positions in the government, neglecting the most needed necessity of the state. 

He added that over 40% of the state revenue is being diverted for personal development that amounts to Billions of Dalasi; he accused that, based on absolute corruption on the play and engineered by some government officials this resulted in Gambia being placed 50 in the economic index of Africa in 2019.

GAP party leader expressed that, in dealing with corruption, GAP lead government will create legislation meant to end corruption also to drastically sanction promoters of corruption in the country. He added that their government will prohibit anyone who is one way or the other stained and found guilty for exercising corrupt practices in government; according to him this drastic disciplinary measure will be designed to regain public trust in the government, he alleged that   the public trust is currently faded due to government looting state funds to personal interest,  he alleged.

According to Gap ‘ Bachilly, part of their measures to expose corrupt practices among  Government officials. GAP promised to install security cameras in government and public offices and an electronic cash system be introduced (ECCS) to effect government payments and receipts kept for verification . He added that Anti Corruption Board Commission (ACBC) will be introduced across all the administrative regions, constituencies aimed at detecting corrupt practices which continue to cripple the performance of the government in terms of economic advancement .

He added that Parliamentary immunity will be ripped off all persons, which many use as a cover to loot state funds.“Our government will accord the powers to the ACC to prosecute corruption cases as this is the best standard amongst African countries “He stated.
