This request came following the imposition of sanction against The ICC’s investigation on the involvement of the US military troop in Afghanistan war crimes.

However, the US Secretary of State mike pampoe says, the court’s investigation is “illegitimate” since they are not part of the court.

In June 2020, the Trump administration issued an executive order blocking all assets of ICC employees, and banning them from entering America.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad on 4 September 2020, describes the US sanction move as a “gross interference on the mandate, independence and impartiality of the Court in the fight against impunity for perpetrators of the most serious crimes of international concern” and stands in Solidarity with the court’s chief prosecutor and other officials targeted by these sanctions.
