The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health (MoH), Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Jaiteh, on Friday 23 July 2021, on behalf of his minister at the central medical store in kotu, expressed delight to the World Bank after receiving highly modern technology equipment meant for the COVID 19 vaccination and establishment of an electronic civil registration system within The Gambia’s health system.

 At the presentation, PS Jaiteh revealed that from the advent of COVID 19 the WB has been the first ever partner that chipped in significant amounts of financial resources and technical expertise to propel The Gambia’s response to fighting COVID 19.

 He said the presentation of the state of the earth equipment user device is yet to actualise a long standing vision of the MoH in fulfilling the mandate of the birth registration in the country, he said.

 PS Jaiteh added that The Gambia has ever maintained its birth and deaths registration system manually which was not without countless number of challenges, the imperfections and also duplicity of human errors which has pondered the minds of officials in the ministry as to how they could catch up with the rest of the world in modernising digitally The Gambia’s data system, he explained.

 “This vision has been boosted in a very significant and major way by this initial first significant step at the support of the WB to digitise our national birth registration and civil registration system in the country,” Dr. Ahmadou  Lamin Jaiteh said.

 He outlined that the equipment would go a long way in ensuring that good and quality data is maintained for the benefit of the citizenry that The Gambia’s ability to comply with international best practices is also enhanced as well as have a strong data and reliable data backbone for the country’s generations to come.

 Dr. Samuel Mills who’s the Task Team Leader for the project said the WB is supporting the MoH to establish electronic logistics management information system, to establish electronic medical report system , to establish human resource management system and several other systems within the system.

 The equipment are as follows: 140 desktops, 60 laptops, 60 tablets, 140 webcams, 140 UPS 1000 VA, 140 power line 4 plugs 10m, 120 printers,120 scanners, 8 lamination machines, 60 solar bags, 8 battery backups and 1 all in one printer.
