Four presidential Aspirants who are most likely to contest under the independent ticket shared their policy and programmes in a debate held at Ebujan theatre in Kanifing Wednesday. The participants were Mamadi Kurang of youth for change, Kitabu Fatty, Progressive Development Party (PDP)Tamsir Jassey of Gambia Our Homeland and Abubacarr Jeng.

The debate was centred around their first 100 years in the office, Tamsir Jassey, mentioned that, in 2016 the Gambian voted for change , expectation of which was keenly awaited and turned out to be a failure. He added that the Gambia needs reforms in all the sectors of Government,these includes , Agriculture, Education, and other sectors. He added that he will establish a committee of experts to ensure that issues are critically looked at for national strategic directions. He added that the committee will also critically study the documents of permanent secretaries ,Directors to avoid misplace qualifications which may hamper the performance of the government.

In his part Mamadi Kurang, blasted the Barrow lead Government for 2016 promises which according to him were never implemented, these includes ,Janneh Commission, Constitution reforms, security sector reforms , he added that, the country has spent lot of billions in these sectors which never register success instead made individuals richer at the expense of the state resources .He stated that, his government must ensure declaration of assets is observed to avoid corrupt practises. He promised to encourage investment in the education sector so that areas of technical education can be promoted in the interest of allowing young people to be job creators. He promised to improve the health sector

Ketabu Fatty indicated that the country’s healthcare system continues to be appalled which he said needs to be resuscitated and he promised to institute an anti-fraud committee to discourage corruption in the Government.

Babucarr Jeng, promised to cooperate with the international community in order to effectively fight the covid 19 which he believes has come to stay like any other virus . He promised to improve the county’s economy as he will rely on the experts to determine which areas need redress for holistic socio -economic development.
