Dear Sir, I begin with the word “Salam”, peace be upon you.

It is not out of a flimsy desire to extend this LETTER to you; instead, it is out of love and concern for a “home” you are believed to be duly chosen by God through the election conducted by people you’re (on oath & promise) to serve diligently. With this, we believe you’re not elected to represent just the symbol of leadership; we believe this has put moral, divine, and constitutional obligation upon you to adequately and effectively deliver tangible and life-changing services to your people with utmost honesty, sincerity and uprightness judiciously.

Mr. President, I intend to humbly bring your unflinching attention to the outcry of your people about the pandemic that has a potential to cripple this country and bring it down to its knee. This pandemic (as you acknowledge exist on our soil) is the Moral and Financial Corruption that is almost near to be synonymous with your Administration sadly.

Your Excellency, you are manning a leadership that, for more than five decades, only three (3) out of Two Million more people are given so far. This tells how special and honorable the position is. The few of you who take the mantle of this leadership are not necessarily better than us, the led; for that and the wisdom behind your elections are best known to Allah. You are, therefore, reminded that this divine, moral and constitutional responsibility placed on your shoulder can be (for you) a ticket to the Dream Land (Jannah) or to above the Worst Nightmare (Hellfire) depending on how the said responsibility is shouldered. For the accountability attached to this leadership here and the hereafter is rarely compared to any fearfully.

Mr. President, I opine that you must be the most informed person of the plights of the poor, the weak, youths (leaders in waiting), women, children and different able persons in this country we call home. The least expected of you is to openly fight this pandemic (moral and financial corruption) and declare a war on the perpetrators of these corruptions in a quest to put them (corruptions) to an end and provide us with services that will avail us opportunities to (economically) salvage ourselves from hunger, have better healthcare services, quality and relevant education etc. and to live in dignified and admirable lives as decent humans created and chosen by God to be the best of creations blessed with the most powerful and sophisticated intellects to make choices, and innovate in the utilization of our God-given resources usefully.

Your Excellency, we can (perhaps) bear patience in moments of difficulty when services provided are insufficient but with hard-work to improve and integrity to get it done. However, we can no longer bear the heat when services are NOT sufficient, power and public offices are abused and used for the advantage of the few while the rest continue to suffer: the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. While it’s already late for us to do this, we still sermon you to take concrete actions against this killer disease before it murders all of us in cold blood.  Humanly, the future of this country (major part) is in your hands. History, therefore, will NOT be kind to you if our future gets sourer than the status quo: your name will be in a song that will bring tears of agony, regret, shame and disappointment. We DO NOT want that to happen to you as we hope and pray to Allah for you to effect change sooner than later submissively.

To conclude, Your Excellency, my words (here) are not meant to please you; in contrary, they’re meant to correct you and direct you to the path that brings dignity and sanity to your personality and position as a leader. For I believe you should be willingly accept to be slapped with the Truth than to be smiled for with blatant lies; and I hope you will be all ears to these words attentively.

I pray to Allah to shower his infinite guidance on you and help you to be upright. For if you are, I believe the country will and our future can be celebrated from today hopefully.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Lamin Sanneh
