Col. Eyadema Gnassingbe, the Father, staged a coup in 1963 and then again in 1967. Since 1967 he has kept and stayed in power until 2005 when he died. He was an unapologetic brutal and corrupt tyrant who was notorious for massive human rights violations. During his tenure, it was common to find dead bodies of political opponents, journalists, activists and any perceived ‘enemies’ throw in rivers!

The Son, Faure inherited the presidency immediately the Father died and with sham elections 3 months after he took office, he has remained in power until today.

Togo is the only country with The Gambia under the Tinpot Dictator Yaya Jammeh to refuse an ECOWAS decision in 2015 to introduce two-terms presidency in west Africa. This is why only The Gambia and Togo have no term limits. Shamelessly. 

In 2019, after already 14 years in power illegally, his rubber stamp parliament changed the constitution to introduce a fresh start in order to allow him to run for president. This was because of public demand for term limits. The protests that followed were crushed with untold brutality and violence by security forces.

With the new constitutional amendment it means Faure was allowed to start afresh by standing for the 2020 and 2025 elections. Of course he illegally won the 2020 election already and without doubt he will win the 2025 election, all things remaining the same. This means, this tyrant is in place until 2030!!! Bumboclaat. 

Since he took power in 2005 thousands of Togolese continue to be subjected to illegal arrests, detention, enforced disappearances, killings and exile!

Therefore it is scandalous that The Gambian authorities would bring this tyrant to witness this ceremony. Currently there are dozens of Togolese exiles in The Gambia hence the presence of Faure in this country is a painful insult and disgusting trauma for them.

Just imagine in those days when Gambians were in exile in any country – Senegal or Ghan or UK or US, etc – yet Despot Jammeh was invited to that country! What an insult to the exiled Gambians that was!

Today this is how Adama Barrow is also insulting the Togolese exiles and all Togolese in the world!
