Traffic congestion is becoming a nightmare in this country, as people spend more than enough time on transport to reach their various destinations due to congestion clearly evident on our roads.  This has caused so much inconvenience in the life of the commuters resulting in a blame game between the public, police, drivers and the central government.

The National Road Authority (NRA) is the body entrusted with the responsibility to design quality roads, to create free flow of traffic for its users, as roads are key infrastructure required to boost economy.

In their efforts to outline the social responsibility of their Agency to the public, Mr Bakary Manneh Senior engineer at the Gambia Road Authority (NRA) stated that, attitude of the people is one of the key factors for the increasing traffic block the country experiences daily. He added that, pedestrians various businesses by the road sides and the behaviour of the traffic police caused unnecessary traffic congestions causing delay, which needs collective approach to deal with these behavioural problems in order to allow free flow of traffic.

He also advised the police traffic unit to train the traffic officers, with the view to help them acquire most needed skills to efficiently and effectively manage the traffic also to deal with other problems associated with traffic, he concluded.
