The United Nations-African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur police component welcomed its new police commissioner in the person of Landing Kinteh. The unveiling ceremony took place earlier today, 1st October 2020 in Zalingei, central Darfur at the UNAMID headquarters.
Mr. Landing Kinteh, a veteran Police Officer who rose to the rank of Inspector-General (Highest Rank) of The Gambia Police Force and a seasoned former diplomat prior to his current appointment.
Welcoming the New UNAMID Police Commissioner, the UNAMID Police Chief of Staff, Mr. Amadu Mannah, stated that since March 2019, UNAMID Police Component had been without a substantive Police Commissioner due to the End-of-Tour of Duty of Madam Priscilla Makatose (out gone UNAMID PC).
The UNAMID Chief Administrator showered special praises on Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri who had acted as UNAMID Police Commissioner for the past 18 months. Mr. Amadu Mannah gave an in-depth explanation of the current strength of the UNAMID Police Component and remarked that “We will support you with every breath in us for you to succeed as Police Commissioner. You have our support”, he assured.
The UNAMID Police Chief of Operations, Mr. Yemane Asnesa, who was acting as Officer-in-Charge UNAMID Police Component, made a power-point presentation detailing the operations of the UNAMID Police and the 13 Team Sites across the Darfur Region of Sudan.
After observing established protocols, the New UNAMID Police Commissioner, Mr. Landing Kinteh, remarked that it was a privilege and an honour working with UNAMID for the third time but in a different capacity. He went further to state that “I have worked with Two (2) different UNAMID Police Commissioners but my reception is exceptional. Your support, cooperation and collaboration is critical to the success of my tenure as UNAMID Police Commissioner. Let us work as a team to achieve our goals”.
Mr. Landing Kinteh commended the UNAMID Police Component for its numerous innovations which he admitted were never present in his previous spells with UNAMID.
He praised the UNAMID Police Public Information Office for promulgating the activities of the Police Component and ended by cautioning everyone that “COVID-19 is real. Please continue to observe the preventive measures”.
Members of the Gambia Police Force and UNAMID officials were present in the unveiling ceremony in Zalingei, central Darfur. It’s a great achievement for the GPF, Gambians in uniform and more importantly to all Gambians.
