The Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) The Gambia, in a press statement, evinced their dissatisfaction with the attitude of the government officials towards the novel Covid-19.

They accused the government of defying the  rules and regulations governing the said virus by allowing public gatherings to take place without either wearing face masks or observing social distancing to avoid the rapid spread of the deadly virus.

“Events such as political rallies, open markets (wanterr), ceremonies and state burials are still being held despite the daily increase in cases,” they said.

They release further emphasized  that within the last 20 days, there has been over 70% increase in the number of Covid-19 cases reported.

“The country has recorded two (2) mortalities of health care workers losing the battle to Covid-19.” The release conveyed.

They added that 10 doctors, 12 nurses and 15 support staff tested positive of Covid-19, and more than 60 health workers currently under quarantine.

The disgruntled Resident doctors said, due to the above observation, they decided to issue a formal press statement to remind the government as well as the general public, to be cautious about the ongoing contagious virus.

They equally called on the public to wear face masks, observe social distancing and all other precautionary guidelines as stipulated by the world health organization, to protect themselves, their families and the country at large.
