As the number of coronavirus cases surge in the country , the number of deaths is raining at an uncontrollable rate .
The Gambia has recorded 3 new Covid -19 related death summing the total to 90 , 101 new cases , 111 new recoveries and 11 people newly taken into quarantine .

since the outbreak of covid -19 in march , the country currently has recorded 2,685 confirmed cases with an overall 601 recoveries and 292 people in quarantine .

Despite all the stringent measures put in place to the curb the further spread of this deadly virus ,the rate at which the number of cases are escalating is not promising .
However , the UDP leader Ousainou Darboe on Sunday during the party’s 24th anniversary slammed the government of Barrow alleging that the raise in the number of covid -19 is utterly as a result of their lack of strategic management.

“At the leadership and strategic level, the government has failed miserably to plan and execute an effective and comprehensive approach to this deadly disease. It wasted time and resources on bureaucratic half measures that has taken much needed resources from hospitals, equipment, and frontline workers” said Darboe .

Last week , the government announced the conversion of the serakunda general hospital into a Covid -19 treatment center due to the unprecedented number of cases . However ,Darboe said the governments decision is bad suggesting that they use ex-President Yahya Jammeh’s air-conditioned tent instead.

“The recently announced decision of designating the Serekunda Hospital as an exclusive Covid 19 treatment centre risks jeopardising access to health care for the large number of patients that rely on this facility for the treatment of non-Covid illness at a time when our already stretched health facilities have difficulties coping their existing patients load. The net result would be a denial of easy access to medical care for treatment of other illness. A better better alternative would be to release to Ministry of Health the big air conditioned tents that Yahya Jammeh purchased with out funds currently sitting on Statehouse grounds and position them at suitable locations properly equipped to be used as a patients and their caregivers with some augmentation of materials and other resources” he emphasized.
