Department of Planning under the Ministry of Youth and Sport in collaboration with ActionAid International – The Gamba starts a nationwide sensitization on HIV/AIDS Infection among young people.
The sensitization campaign started since July and its focus is to raise awareness on the prevention of HIV/AIDS in the country.

The team has covered all the regions and districts of North Bank, Central River, Upper River, Lower River and West Coast Region respectively of the country.

It is now in the KM region and will later proceed to the Capital City in the Coming week.

Musa Mbye, Director of Planning said the sensitization program is in line with the strategic outcome of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

He said as a ministry, they are committed to the development and empowerment of young people.

“The well-being of our young people is of great concern of the government of the Gambia,” he said.

He said they already covered over 40 districts out of 48 across the country and the reminding ones will be covered in the coming weeks.

According to Fanta Jatta Sowe, ActionAid International -The Gambia the sensitizations are gear towards accelerating HIV/AIDS prevention among young people in the country.

She challenged young people of the country to do all they can to prevent themselves from the disease.

“HIV/AIDS still exist and still killing people and new infections are happening. Please take care of yourselves,” she advised.

She described her office partnership with MoYS as very important to the fight against the HIV/AIDS.

“We value our relationship with MoYS and from now on we will continue working with you because no one institution can do it alone,” she said.
