The United Democratic Party (UDP) through the secretary General of the Party Ousainaou Darboe last Sunday told party militants in a meeting held at its political bureau in Manjai that, UDP has never rejected the controversial draft constitution because they have the interest of the country at heart. He emphasised that no political party can equal the love of the UDP for Gambia, evident of this is the souls which were taken off innocent youths of UDP such as Solo Sandeng and others all for the national interest.

According to this high raised political figure for the biggest opposition political party in The Gambia, since the onset of the discussion for the need to create a new supreme book for this country, UDP has ever been affiliated to the whole idea. He added that UDP had led a struggle to end dictatorship in this country since 1996, he refuted claims of UDP rejecting the draft constitution and also expunging chances for the revival of the draft, and he reiterated that the UDP’s members of the assembly never voted against the draft.

It’s could be recalled, that UDP held  tied the feedback on the Abuja constitutional talk to their chest in which they were represented by their leader Ousainou Darboe, this has raised a public outcry as many accused the party to be the huddle  to reach political consensus on the draft impasse .

Ousainu Darboe, re-echoed that UDP has agreed to every clause in the draft constitution and that remain unchanged people to shift public outcry to those who rejected the draft as it’s against their interest.
