The university of the Gambia debate association commemorated world health day on April 7th 2022 held at the faculty of Law on Kanifing Campus under the theme “To hear for life,listen with care”.

In his welcoming remark , Gibril Njie the President of the association said, university being the biggest academic institution in the country is taking a lead in making sure that people are educated in relation to their health.

He revealed that , this year the association extended invitation to the mentally affected persons from Tankatanka to take part in the celebration as they are integral part of the society .

Gender and Health Minister of the university of the Gambia students’ union Amadou A.M Jawo, explains the significance of the event , he added that , the world health organization (WHO) organize this day to ensure sound policies are formulated to improve the health delivery system in the country and also to address the conditions of mentally disorder persons .

He stated that, climate change concerns forms core on their agenda for the events , he added that, series of cleasing exercise have been observed to assure clean university environment is conducive to all .

Modou Njai director of health promotion and education said, his ministry is ensuring that climate change concerns reflect in there policies . He added that, assessments are ongoing by his ministry in collaboration with partners from different sectors to establish whether Gambia achieve her smoking free targets . He said the theme “To hear for life,listen with care” is powerful and this signal that, this association is thinking ahead of them.

Demba Jammeh the director of forensic who represented the director of drug law enforcement agency said, this day is essential to them and the Drug law Enforcement Agency is proud and highly honored to be associated with the event . He explained that , the drug law enforcement agency is not only concentrating on drugs as a Illegal substance but also served as source to numerous health related problems.

“we have been partnering with the students of the university of the Gambia, sensitizing them about the use of drug, it’s effects and consequences and I hope the students union will continue to partner with us” He said.

The World Health Day is  an annual event which is observed globally on 7th  of April to celebrate  the existence of World Health organization.
