The  Gambia Tailor’s  Union (GTU)in partnership with the Kanifing Municipal council (KMC) conducted a cleansing exercise in Serrekunda  over the weekends with the aim of keeping the nation clean.

 

Speaking at the gathering , Lord Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda stated that , cleansing Exercise(Set Setal) cannot  be an exercise to clean the whole nation but just to show an exemplary approach which  can be replicated at the community level by its inhabitants daily. He further stated that , there has never been a union which  has approach them for such a collaboration except the tailor’s union , he encouraged other unions to chip  in for such a gesture  and advised them to use their membership  to serve as agents to encourage Gambian from the culture of littering.

 

The president of the Gambia tailors union,  Ababacarr Janha said , cleansing exercise should be done by everyone irrespective of background . He advised the membership to unite in the best interest of the trade .

 

The exercise is geared towards keeping the nation clean and bringing it’s members together  to contribute their quarter towards the union building 

 

This is the first major activity that the union has embarked on since its establishment few months back and vows to do more of such kind of gesture .
