On Friday 27th May the Gambian-German Advisory Centre for Jobs, Training and Reintegration (GGAC) in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE) has organise a Job Fair in West Coast Region at Gambia college Brikama to support the Government of the Gambia in tackling Unemployment and underemployment  and achieving its target of creating 150,000 jobs by 2026 as enshrined in the National Employment policy 2022-2026.

The ceremony was graced by the Governor of West coast Region Lamin sanneh who said that , the job fair is an opportunity that will go a milestone and will improve the dynamic of youth unemployment especially with regards to the youth migration.

Adding that youth unemployment is a challenge as indicated by the 2018 National labour force survey.

He thank the Ministry and GGAC for such projects and the Government for creating an enabling environment for the job fair which will be a turning point to improve the country’s Economic Growth and decrease the unemployment rate for the youth as they are the core of Every society . He stressed the need for the young people to be engaged in order to be responsible in society .

kawsu sillah ,National coordinator and Head of Gambian German Advisory Center for jobs ,Training and Reintegration (GGAC) said Access to information about locally available vacancies or job opportunities remain a major challenge for returnees,Fresh graduates and Job seekers in the country . He added that , Job fairs are an excellent avenue to promote greater access to employment opportunities for job seekers and potential employers to interface directly .

Sillah added that Gambia and other developing countries are faced with high rate of unemployment which has negative impact on the Economic growth and development in supporting partners and other communities in addressing the challenge ,the German Federal Ministry For Economic Cooperation and Development( BMZ) commissioned”returning to new opportunities”programme global initiating programme is aimed at improving the prospect of Economic and social participation of returnees, the internally displaced persons and local population in 12 countries of German development cooperation and in the Gambia the programme is being implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation( GIZ ) in partnership with MOTIE through Gambian German Advisory Center for jobs.

He noted that, he is with hope that the job fair will connect job seekers and employers with job vacancies, Equip job seekers,policy makers and role models as well as inspire young people to start their own businesses and create opportunities for others.

He thank their service providers (PEM) consult for facilitating the organisation of the important and MOTIE for  their partnership to help Gambians to succeed on job market ,Education trainings and business
