Police investigators on Wednesday at Khamsys training center in Bijilo  underwent nine days capacity building training on sexual and gender based violence.

The training is organized by GIZ with support from police programme Africa, joint German: EU support to the Gambia police force.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr Marion Popp, country component manager of police programme Africa, highlighting the importance of the training said “the training which is one of its kind will help build capacity of both investigators and operatives of the force in ensuring quality service delivery at work “

Dr Popp assured the trainees that , at the end of the training, participants will immensely develop their working skills in dealing with cases of gender based violence.

Dr Popp called for greater attention to the deliberations and thanked the Gambian police authorities for the cooperation and support to the partnership.

Meanwhile representative of the inspector general of police AIG Demba Sowe, the crime management coordinator of the Gambia armed force hailed the Gambia German partnership, describing the partnership as a fruitful partnership that brought lots of development to the Gambia police force.

AIG Sowe thanked the police programme Africa and assured them that the training will help to capacities the police force, while adding that the training could not have come at a better time than this.

“I urged you all to take this training seriously and partake in all sessions and take full advantage of the lessons learned so as to add value to the job” he concluded.

Other speaker at the event includes Mr. Sven stadtrecher senior project coordinator German police support team in the Gambia.
