Saturday  18 February 2023 , the republic of the Gambia celebrates its 58th  independence anniversary in a colorful style held at the McCathy square in Banjul.

 

The event was commemorated with a  match pass by various Units of the security forces and students from different schools.

 

The celebration was attended by dignitaries from various countries and  ministries.

 

President  Adama Barrow  while delivering his independence speech said,  he  is convinced that democracy is the  frame work to attain peace and stability and his government is duly committed to good governance entrenched in the principles of democracy.

 

He proceeded by saying , he believes in democracy for self-determination, economic growth and protection of human dignity.

 

President Barrow further said in model of democracy, his  government legitimately derive it’s mandate and authority from the people and  must defend their values, principles,beliefs, practices, aspirations and social structures.

 

finally he said, our national day is  a reminder for us to showcase our patriotism and loyalty as s proud Gambians.

 

The 18 February is a day celebrated in the Gambia as it is a day the Gambia gain it independence from the British rule and it is celebrated annually from 18 February 1965  to date.
